Happy Birthday, Levi!

I am really not sure how it's possible that this guy is 4! He is such a joy to our home. He is silly. He likes to tease. He has a tender heart. He loves to snuggle. He loves to draw and cut. He loves to be outside riding his bike or swinging on the tire swing. He likes for anyone to tickle him.

He has been through so much in his short life, but it is amazing to see how how he has overcome so many obstacles! We praise the Lord for his special grace to Levi.
Levi requested pancakes for breakfast and Daddy made them extra special for him. Levi was thrilled to get a fire truck and he played with it all day. He got to go on a Starbuck's date with daddy and spend time in the evening celebrating Grandpa's birthday too.
Our two 4 year olds! :)

These boys = double trouble! :)

Levi got a wonderful report from the eye doctor recently! His eyes have improved so much in the last 3 months, he no longer has to wear his glasses all the time! So thankful!

Early morning reading with my big kiddos.

Levi was hiding.

Ava loves squeezing between our legs/feet. Ha!

Jacob performing a duet in a concert.

Asher can now go down the fire pole alone. He didn't even want me standing nearby.

Sweet Miss Ava.

Thanksgiving 2014.

This year we did a little different thankful tree. The kids loved it! It is so cute to hear each day what they are thankful for. We did lots of Thanksgiving crafts, but somehow I forgot to take pictures of them. Oops.

Our first thanksgiving meal was with my side of the family and I didn't take a single picture. :( It was around lunch time on Thanksgiving. We came home in the afternoon and let the kids take naps before we headed to Jacob's side of the family meal.
Jacob and his brother, Judah, played some favorite hymns of Nanny and Pawpaw as well as some Christmas songs. It was beautiful!

Asher and his cousin, Luke, are just about 3 weeks apart in age. They had fun playing together!

Sweet baby Ava was worn out from a busy, busy day!

On Friday, some of my extended family (my Memaw's sister's children and grandchildren) had a mini family reunion at their beautiful home! We met family that we'd never met before! It was so fun! I must admit though, I was slightly freaked out the whole time we were there that one of my kids would break something in the huge, beautiful home! I let out a big sigh of relief when we left! HA

The little girl cousins.

On Friday night we had a get together with my family - in order to make the most of the time we had with Jer, Anna, and Emma. They are visiting Anna's family in Colorado for Christmas this year.

Cold weekend fun.

Last weekend was soooo cold, but we got out and did a lot of activities! Jacob an to a consignment store on Thursday to get the 3 big kids heavy coats because all they had were hoodies.
Thursday evening the chamber group of the youth orchestra Jacob conducts was playing at our city's downtown open house and Christmas tree lighting ceremony. It was fun just super cold!

On Friday night, we went to a Christmas tree lighting at an outdoor mall in a nearby town. We missed the actual lighting because the traffic was INSANE and we had to park on the top floor of the parking garage. Oh well. The kids didn't know the difference. Jacob's mom went with us, and it was so nice to have her help us keep up with children in the huge crowds. :)

Levi and a giant christmas ball.

Lily standing by a giant reindeer's leg. It was SO cold and windy!

We didn't last long outside, but we went to Barnes and Noble and the kids had the best time!

Grammie got the kids (and Jacob) rides on the carousel.

There was a santa the kids could see after they rode the carousel. Lily told him she wants a doll and Levi said he wants an umbrella. HA!

On Saturday morning, there was a 5K race that Jacob and some other family members ran in. Lily and my nephew, Ridley, ran the 1 mile fun run. They did so well!

Here they are just starting out.

Right before crossing the finish line. :) We were so proud of her!

Ava is 1!

I am really not sure how our baby can be one already! This year has flown by so fast! Ava got her boot cast off on Friday and has been loving her freedom! :) She is standing alone, but not walking unsupported yet. She loves bath time, loves to eat, plays very well with her siblings, makes a beeline for the bathroom anytime the door is left open, enjoys reading, still takes 2 naps each day, sleeps well at night, wears size 12 month clothes, and brings SO much joy to our home.
We had a little birthday party with family on Sunday night after church. There were lots of little helping hands when it was time to open presents! :)

Ava was not thrilled about everyone singing happy birthday and she didn't really like the cupcake - she doesn't enjoy getting her hands all dirty. Poor baby.

Monday was her actual birthday. We went to story time at the library and then played outside enjoying the warmish weather. We even had a picnic for lunch - the breeze was sort of chilly, but not too bad.

Happy Birthday, sweet baby girl!

The first broken bone.

Well, Miss Ava is the first of our children to have a broken bone. I was the first (and last, so far) in my family when I broke my elbow at 2 years old by falling through the banister on the second story apartment where my family lived, down to a cement floor. Ack!

Ava fractured her ankle 3 weeks ago. She was standing at a desk and got her arm caught in a cabinet door, lost her balance, and sat down on her ankle. We didn't actually see it happen (Jacob was working on a lesson at his computer), but that's the best we can figure out. We think she might've fallen on a small screw that shouldn't have been on the floor.  When it happened she cried the most pain-filled cry, but we didn't know what was wrong and she soon calmed down. It was bedtime, so I gave her a bottle and put her to bed. She was pretty restless all night - crying out several times, but appearing to be sound asleep when I got in there to check on her.
The next morning, I knew something was wrong when I lifted her legs to change her diaper and she shrieked in pain. :( After her morning bottle I stood her in my lap without thinking and she again cried and wouldn't put weight on her left leg. I called the pediatrician and got her in as soon as possible. The doctor moved her ankle/leg/hip and Ava only cried when her hip was moved. She didn't act like her ankle hurt at all - so weird! We got an X-ray done and the doctor and radiologist both read the X-ray as normal and determined that Ava just had a strained muscle.

I still felt like something more was wrong because she was still acting like she was in pain and she would try to pull up and then crumple to the floor.
The following morning, she woke up and her ankle was quite swollen, red, and warm to the touch. I called the doctor back and she zoomed in on the ankle in the X-ray and realized that the outside bone was chipped. Since Ava is so little, the pediatrician referred us to an orthopedic pediatrician.

The ortho ped found two abnormal places on Ava's ankle and he prescribed the boot cast for 3 weeks. He said that he sees the same situation a lot in babies - they will act like one thing hurts (her hip) but then it turns out to be something completely different (her ankle). At first we had lots of trouble keeping her foot properly in the cast, but after a layering on 4 socks, it stays on pretty well. The picture above was soon after we got home. She was so proud that she got the boot off! :)
We usually take the boot off after Ava's asleep at night - otherwise she wakes up crying because (we think) her foot/leg falls asleep.
Of course we have been using essential oils from the beginning (before we even really knew what was wrong) to promote healing and help ease the body's natural response to injury.
She has been such a good sport about the whole ordeal. She isn't letting it stop her from crawling at lightening speed and cruising around the furniture. I think she would've been walking by now if this hadn't have happened.
Ohh, she is just a JOY! :) She hopefully gets the cast off this Friday - 3 days before her first birthday!

Fun at the Farm

Jacob got Columbus Day off from all his teaching and conducting, so we had a fun family day! We planned to go hiking, but that morning I saw that a pumpkin patch/farm about an hour away was having a special holiday price. The kids decided that they wanted to go to the farm instead of hiking. It was a cloudy, very windy day, but we spent about 3 1/2 hours at the farm - totally worth the drive and the ticket cost!
Jacob and the kids loved the 80 foot long slide! They went down over and over!

It was SO long! :)

We did the kiddie part of the corn maze but passed on doing the part that takes over an hour to get through. Ha.

Jumping in the hay bed was fun too!

Duck racing. Poor Levi had a small casualty with a mud puddle. :)

The three big kids and I did the bumpy cow ride through the corn maze.

I love this babywearing daddy!!

We took a hayride to the pumpkin patch. Since we already got each child a small pumpkin a few weeks ago, we just picked out one bigger pumpkin to carve.

The jumping pillow was amazing fun! We went back to do it several times.

This was right before we left to go home. Apparently Asher was taking a snooze and Ava was mad. LOL

I'm thankful we could spend the day together and have so much fun!

Happy hay bales :)
