Friday Fails

I have had so many fails over the last few weeks, it's not even funny! I have pictures of some, but a few you will just have to use your imagination for!

  • Whenever we had the last tornado scare, I ended up going to the shelter looking like this! 1 brown and 1 black! What a dork! PS- I realize I have very ugly feet. My sister has told me since we were little that they look like claws. FYI- I refused to wear flipflops until 2 years ago because of my poor self-image! ha!
    • This cast iron skillet with leftover gravy remains did not sit on my stovetop for over two weeks before I finally decided to clean it. Um, yeah! That kind of thing never happens in my kitchen.
    • Speaking of kitchens, on Wednesday morning, my dear husband had the fabulous idea of making doughnuts in our new deep fryer. Well, unfortunately he placed the stack of papertowels we were going to use to drain the doughnuts on, on the stove right beside the kettle that was boiling water for our yummy french press coffee. The next thing we knew, our kitchen was filling with smoke and the stack of papertowels was blazing on our stove. Thankfully I managed to get them thrown in the sink, but not before ash had been blown all over the kitchen! Oh, and that same morning our "yummy" french press coffee was more like dirty dish water because said husband was so distracted with the doughnuts that he only measured 2 scoops instead of 4 scoops of coffee to grind. Needless to say, after all that, we were ready to go climb back in bed and start the day over again!

    • We have been enjoying lots of grilled pizza lately, but the last time we had a little difficulty. I didn't get the pizza dough stiff enough, so it stuck to the grill {partly because Jacob only greased the grill instead of also brushing oil on the crust} and parts of it fell through the grates. Jacob got so frustrated with it, he wadded up the dough and threw it out in the yard {that's why there are sprigs of grass in the picture. He went and got it so I could take a picture for this post. Ha!}. So I was going to make a second batch of dough so we could try it again, but of course, I was out of yeast. We ended up having "flatbread" pizza for lunch. It was ok, but I don't want to have it again!

I was getting ready to give Lily a bath the other night and she kept giving me "sugar" so I took a picture. I know I look like a dork, but I'm ok with it.

    Ya'll head over to My Blessed Life to check out more Friday Fails {and to get some laughs!}

    Happy Friday!

    This Weekend...

Jacob tried to teach Lily to crawl. She scooted a little but soon lost interest. Ha!

We celebrated Jacob's Mom's birthday. Actually it was earlier last week, but I didn't get a chance to post the pictures. We went out to a local BBQ joint for supper. It was yummy!

We were so happy Jacob's PawPaw could join us. He's just precious.

Jacob's mom got an iPad for her birthday! She was shocked! I can't believe we all were able to keep it a secret from her- she always wants to know what her presents are before she opens them.

Jacob was more than happy to assist in teaching his mom how to use it! Pretty sure her three Mac-lovin' sons were trying not to covet. Ha!

Jacob was off work on Friday, so we made a little trip to a town 45 minutes away so Jacob could buy an iPhone from a guy off Craigslist. Jacob is always buying electronics then selling them to get 'better' electronics. It's totally ok with me since what he sells usually covers everything he buys. Anyway, we met the guy at Cracker Barrel so we decided to go ahead and eat breakfast there. Lily was fascinated by the fans and of course Jacob was playing on his new toy!

Friday night Jacob's youngest brother, Judah, graduated from highschool. It was a sweet homeschool graduation, but there were about 28 graduates, so it was long. Judah plays the violin too, so he and Jacob {on guitar} played the Ashokan Farewell. It was incredibly beautiful!

We enjoyed Sunday dinner and supper at Myra's. Lily loved playing in Ridley's jumperoo! We have to get her something like that. She is just no longer content playing on a blanket with a few toys. My little girl is growing up way too fast!

Hope ya'll have a great Monday!

    Catching Up! (part 2)

If you missed my Catching Up (part 1) yesterday, click here to read it.

Last Monday Lily and I traveled with my parents to South Carolina. My Dad had a pastor's Week of Prayer and Mom, Lily and I went along to visit my Mom's family. Lily was a great traveler. She loved looking out the van window at everything passing by.

It was everyone's first time to meet Lily, so we were super busy seeing everyone! This is my mom's sister.

My cousins are in CAP and we got there right before they had to leave for their meeting. They don't always look so stern- guess their faces had to match their uniforms. Ha!

Lily and I stayed with my mom's brother and his family. I forgot to get pictures of their three kids playing with Lily. They had alot of fun though!

On Monday evening I got to visit with my best friend from college. We hadn't seen each other since her wedding last June! It was so fun catching up and she and her hubby loved playing with Lily.

When I was in college, I worked as a first grade teacher's aide. On Tuesday, we went to visit the teachers I worked for as well as this sweet lady who works in the office! She was like a mom to me while I was in college.

This is the first grade teacher I worked for the most. She was also like a mom away from home! I am so thankful for these two ladies who took me 'under their wing' while I was 6 hours away from my Mom! It was so fun for them to meet Lily. Thankfully she behaved even though was was wakened from her nap!

We went and ate lunch with these dear friends. Jess' baby is due pretty much anytime! I really enjoyed seeing her house and baby Kyle's nursery! Jess and I have been friends forever, it seems like. We had a good time chatting before everyone else arrived for lunch. We were going to go to the park for a picnic, but it was cold and rainy so we just ate at Jess' home. I definitely wasn't prepared for the cool temperatures! Poor Lily had no warm clothes and I just had that one jacket with me.

My Mom, Aunt, Lily and I went to visit and put flowers on my Grandpa and Granny's gravesite. My Grandpa passed away many years ago, but Granny has only been gone since October of 2007. It was good to remember the godly heritage we have been so blessed with!

We headed home from our whirlwind trip on Wednesday. Lily and I were so happy to get home! We missed Jacob/Daddy so much!

    Catching Up! (part 1)

Wow, I have so much catching up to do! Last week was such a busy busy week. I'm so sorry for neglecting my blog and all of ya'll! I'll do my best to catch up on all your posts from last week {no promises though! ha}.

Last weekend Jacob, Lily, and I went to Outback {one of my favorite restaurants because of their gluten-free menu!} to celebrate Mother's Day. After dinner we headed to a concert that Jacob played in. It was a fun evening and Lily behaved so well!

On Saturday, we participated in a church outreach at a Car Show. The ladies in the church baked dozens and dozens of cookies and we put them in baggies, stapled a church invitation card to each baggie and then handed them out with info about our church to all the people at the car show. All the people couldn't believe we were handing out free homemade cookies with no strings attached! Ha!

My little bro was thrilled to check out all the old cars! He was like a kid in a candy store. Several of the owners were kind enough to let him get his picture made in their cars.

We had a special {but very busy} Mother's Day! It was so fun celebrating Mother's Day this year with Lily. I'm am so thankful God has given me the privilege to be a mommy. I never want to take it for granted! We ate dinner with my family since we had some out of town family visiting.

My parent's had fun playing with their grandbabies!

After a quick dinner, we headed to a local park for one of Jacob's youth orchestra's concert. It was a beautiful day and we enjoyed the beautiful music. In case you are wondering why the orchestra is so small- this particular orchestra has 3 different levels. Jacob conducts the first two levels and helps with the top level as well. Level 2 is pictured- alot of the kids couldn't make it because of Mother's Day.

Lily enjoyed the music too, that is, before she fell asleep. ha!

Alot of Jacob's family came to the concert because his brother and little sister play. This pic is of me, my mother-in-law, Jacob's lil' sis, Jacob's aunt, and his big sister.

PawPaw with two of his three daughters

After the concert we headed to the cemetery for a little graveside service for Jacob's Nanny. She passed away in December, but because of the cold and rainy weather, we weren't able to have a graveside service. Jacob and Judah played several of Nanny's favorite hymns- Great is Thy Faithfulness and It Is Well With My Soul.

PawPaw read some scripture and spoke of some special memories of Nanny. It was such a special time, and I'm thankful for the closure it gave to all the family. Isn't the headstone beautiful?! It is just perfect.

Hopefully tomorrow I will be able to share about my time out of town last week as well as this past weekend. Thanks for bearing with me! ha.

    Have a wonderful day!
