Weekend Recap

It seems like our weekends are always so busy, but oh so fun! We love all the time we get to spend with our family on the weekends.

Photobucket

We had a relaxing Saturday morning, which was really nice. Lily and I went grocery shopping in the late morning and Jacob worked on the workshop he's building in our back yard. We had a bridal shower to go to Saturday afternoon and then Lily and I went to Memaw's and spent time with her. It was a great day. I hate that I forgot to take any pictures in the afternoon!

Photobucket

Lily spent a lot of time this weekend practicing rolling over. She had several opportunities to show off her new skills to oohing and awwing family members! ha!

Photobucket

On Sunday we had a wonderful day at church. My dad is preaching through Genesis on Sunday mornings. We are at Noah's Ark right now and one thing my dad pointed out that really blessed me was that even after the dove came back with the olive leaf, Noah waited on God to tell him it was ok to go out of the ark. I so often find myself getting in a hurry to do things on my own and not waiting on God's timing.

We ate dinner with Jacob's family and enjoyed some time with his brother who was at home for the weekend. I unfortunately forgot to take pictures while we were there.

Photobucket

I made this Butterfinger Cake for dessert after dinner. It is a huge hit with everyone! I posted the recipe on my recipe blog if you want to check it out. It's super easy!!

Photobucket

After church on Sunday night we went to my parent's for supper. My brother was home for the weekend as well so it was fun to hang out with him! I think it had been a month or so since my bro and Jacob's bro had seen Lily. They couldn't believe how much she's grown!

Spring has definitely sprung here in AL! We are enjoying some beautiful sunshine and warm temperatures this week! I {heart} Spring!

Hope ya'll had a great weekend!

In Which I Burn The Cookies

This has been a rough week for me with Lily and I being sick. Thankfully I started feeling better on Wednesday, but Lily is still congested. Poor baby! I've had many fails throughout the week, but this was the main one.

The last time I made chocolate chip cookies I froze some of the cookie dough so I could just pop a couple in the oven for a special treat for Jacob. One night this week I decided to bake a few. Instead of heating up the oven I thought it would be easier just to bake them in the toaster oven. Ha! It was definitely a mistake!

Photobucket

This is how they turned out, burnt on the bottom, brown on top, and completely unbaked in the middle! And the kitchen smelled quite wonderful as well. Ha! (Sidenote: our toaster oven pan is well "seasoned" if you were wondering! LOL)

So after that first failed attempt at cookies, I heated up the oven and baked a couple more...but I forgot to set the timer and they turned out, umm, let's say...quite crispy. Oops! I don't know where my brain was! My sweet hubby didn't complain about the crispy cookies, which totally made my day!

Photobucket

This picture totally does not go with anything about burnt cookies, but I just wanted to put up a picture of my little sweetie. Nothing smells better than a fresh bathed baby!!

Need A Laugh Today??

The other day when I kept my nephew, I heard giggling and walked in the living room to see this craziness!

Photobucket

Yes, my dear husband is truly a child at heart! Ha!

Photobucket

He loves playing with kids and doing crazy things to make them laugh!

Photobucket

They had lots of fun playing together even in the slightly cramped quarters! ha!

Busy Weekend

Photobucket

Our weekend was full of rehearsals, concerts, my little brother's piano recital, grocery shopping, house cleaning, wonderful church services...

Photobucket

...naps, snuggles, and sickness! Yes, my poor baby is sick again and this time mommy is sick too. Ugh! Hopefully we'll be feeling much better soon.

Photobucket

We thought Spring was here to stay because Saturday was a gorgeous day, but yesterday it rained all day and today it's snowing/sleeting! Crazy weather! Our good ole allergy-inducing Bradford Pear tree was tricked by the weather too.

Hope ya'll have a great Monday!

Caffeinated Randomness: Video

I'm super busy today taking care of Lily and my sweet nephew while my sister meets with some clients so I thought I'd just post this video I took last night of Lily. Jacob has never been around when she's rolled over so this video is my proof! ha. Bless her heart, she always cries when she rolls over. I think it scares her! Please ignore my annoying squeaky/shrill voice. Ha!

Happy Friday!

Burdens Lifted

Photobucket

The last few days have been kind of rough for me. Lily is teething {yes, I know it's earlier than most babies, but goat milk drinking babies usually get their teeth faster}, has a cold, and has just been a miserable little baby for the last two days {although you'd never guess that from the angelic picture!}. I feel so bad for her! It's very hard to see your little one hurting, and it's especially hard when they can't tell you what's wrong.

My heart has also been very burdened and broken for a dear friend who needs the Lord to work mightily in her life right now.I find that it's so easy for me to get bogged down and depressed by things/people that I cannot change, I can only pray about. It is hard sometimes to give our burdens over to the Lord, but that's what His Word says we are to do. "Cast your burden on the Lord and He will sustain you: he will never suffer the righteous to be moved" Psalm 55:22

Last night at prayer meeting we sang this song. It's a familiar song, but I'd really never noticed the words {shame on me!}.

Singing I Go

The trusting heart to Jesus clings,
Nor any ill forebodes,
But at the cross of Calv’ry, sings,
Praise God for lifted loads!

Refrain
Singing I go along life’s road,
Praising the Lord, praising the Lord,
Singing I go along life’s road,
For Jesus has lifted my load.

The passing days bring many cares,
“Fear not,” I hear Him say,
And when my fears are turned to prayers,
The burdens slip away.

He tells me of my Father’s love,
And never slumb’ring eye,
My everlasting King above
Will all my needs supply.

When to the throne of grace I flee,
I find the promise true,
The mighty arms upholding me
Will bear my burdens too.

I'm so thankful the Lord used the words of this song last night to speak to my heart, lift my burdens, and renew my joy!

Day Trip

Jacob is partially on spring break this week {it's complicated, but some of the schools he teaches in have spring break this week and some have spring break at the end of April. It would be nice if the whole state, or nearby cities all had spring break the same week, but that's just my opinion!} so we decided to take a day trip to Nashville, TN. We had planned to go on President's Day but it snowed and we had to postpone the trip.

Photobucket

We headed to Opry Mills first. I'd never been there before and wow, was it overwhelming! Jacob enjoyed the big tool store and I liked checking out all the sales at the children's stores. We walked around the whole place twice but didn't buy anything but a cute pair of tights for Lily for next year! Ha!

Photobucket

I love all the comfy chairs they have throughout the mall! It was nice to be able to sit and relax while I fed Lily.

Photobucket

We ate lunch at the food court. I have never seen such a big food court. There were so many choices! I had a yummy baked potato and Jacob got Chinese.

After we left Opry Mills, we headed downtown to a violin shop for Jacob to drop off a bow to be repaired. It was amazing to drive down "music row" and see all the music stores and studios. Very cool!

Photobucket

Next we stopped at LifeWay Christian Bookstore just to browse while I fed Lily. Lily was so good the whole day! Since it was our first long trip with her, we weren't sure how she would do. She took great naps in the car and the stroller, and she was so happy when she was awake. On the way home she was kind of fussy, but I think she was just worn out from the busy day.

Photobucket

Union Station was right across the street from LifeWay, so we walked over just to look around. It is a train station that has been turned into an amazing hotel. We just went in the lobby to look at the amazing architecture. It was incredible beautiful, and yes, I forgot to take a picture. Sadness!

When we got back to the car at LifeWay, I realized that one of Lily's adorable hot pink shoes was missing! {You can kind of see her shoes in the collage picture} I knew she had both of them on in LifeWay when I was feeding her, so we knew it hadn't been missing long. While I got Lily in the car, Jacob went back into LifeWay to see if he could find it. He looked all around where we'd been and asked if anyone had seen it, but no, it wasn't there. I was so sad, I know it's just a pair of shoes, but it was Lily's very first time to wear them and one of her great-great aunts had given them to her.

Well, after checking the street we walked across, we drove over to Union Station. I got out and walked up to the valet parking guy and said, "This is a really strange question, but have you happened to see a little pink shoe around here?" He said, "Yes ma'am, actually we have!" I headed into the hotel to get the shoe and a girl came walking toward me really fast holding out the shoe and saying "I've been looking all over for you." I was so happy I could've squeezed that girl's neck!

Photobucket

We started heading back home, but made a few leisurely stops. One at Whole Foods where we got some organic dark chocolate covered coffee beans {yum!} and another at Barnes and Noble where we enjoyed browsing!

Photobucket

The last stop of our fun-filled day was at Cracker Barrel where we met John David and Rachel for supper. I have been reading Rachel's blog for over a year now and it was so fun to meet in real life!

Photobucket

They are expecting a baby boy in April! Lily was so happy and sweet and I think John David and Rachel enjoyed getting some practice with such a little baby.

It was so fun to get away for the day and enjoy time together as a family! Today Jacob is golfing with his Pawpaw and Lily and I are hanging out at home trying to get it back in order after a busy weekend.

Sour Milk Explosion

Since I can't drink cow's milk and Jacob only uses it for chocolate milk or on cereal we normally waste a lot of milk. {Fail #1} Once the milk starts smelling bad to Jacob {I refuse to smell milk} he has this habit of setting the milk jug on the dryer by the back door so he can take it out with the garbage.

Photobucket

Most weeks the milk sits on the dryer for a few days {before Jacob has time to take out the garbage} and the jug starts to swell and the milk starts looking like this.

Photobucket

...and this. Disgusting I know.

Well, let me tell you what's even more disgusting. A few weeks ago I was cleaning up the kitchen and waiting for some clothes to finish drying, when I started hearing these popping noises. I thought something was wrong with the dryer so I ran over, only to realize that the milk jug was bursting and sour milk was spraying out all over the place. I screamed for Jacob and he came running and took the jug out to the trash as fast as he could. My dear hubby had the privilege of cleaning up the mess...boy did it smell awful! That's what you call a major milk jug FAIL!

{I can't believe I just admitted that such atrocious incidents go on at my house, or that I actually took pictures of it! Ha.}

Photobucket

Hope ya'll have a fab weekend! Maybe we'll have some more spring-like weather to enjoy! Oh, and check out My Blessed Life for more Friday Fails confessions!

I'm Lovin' Mimi's Babies!

It is no secret that I love all things girly for Lily. Just imagine my excitement and joy when I got this surprise package from Charissa at Mimi's Babies!!

Photobucket

Charissa made these two beautiful flower clips for Lily! Aren't they adorable? They are so well made too. It was the first time I'd seen Charissa's work in real life, and boy was I impressed! {Edit: I have seen Charissa's work before...but not the flower hairclips. Just clarifying!}

Photobucket
Super cute, huh?!

Photobucket
Before Lily was born we were given a blue carseat that some friends had used. I asked Mimi if she could make a girly carseat cover and this is what she came up with. I love that it is unique, cute and durable!

Mimi's Babies has so many adorable items for the sweet little ones in your life! Just for the record, I'm not being paid to say this...I just wanted to share my love for them with ya'll!!
