Confessions of a Tired Mama

So, when you have two (or one or ten) little children, an 18 month old and a 6 month old in my case, you are pretty much perpetually tired. Very tired. You are constantly busy, constantly needed. Sometimes in your completely exhausted state, you do some interesting things that make you think, "If my children make it to adulthood unscarred, it will be a miracle!" Ha!

Thought I'd share a few of mine . .  .

  • This happened not once, but twice in one day! Both times I didn't notice until we were walking out the door.
  • You forget one child's paci and end up washing the other's and sharing it.
  • You start talking baby talk to everyone - like saying "bye-bye" to a student (my hubs did this)
  • Spit up and snot are your accessories.
  • You make salted chocolate chip cookies and forget to add the salt.
  • You leave the house to head to the store only to return 2 minutes later for your list, and then 2 minutes later for your wallet.
  • Naptime rolls around for your 6 month old and you realize his sheets are still in the washer, so you put him in his sister's crib . . . with her pink lovey and all.
  • You can't remember when you took a shower last (not that it's been too terribly long . . . your memory is just failing.)
  • You start putting on lip gloss only to realize that it's teething gel.
  • You make horrible spelling mistakes, but can't figure out why the word looks so funny.
  • No matter how early you get up on Sunday mornings, or how much you prepare the night before, you're always rushing out the door frazzled and saying how much you hate Sundays - yes, I pretty much say that every Sunday and then I repent and realize that Sundays will get easier . . . one day.
  • You have to re-wash the same load of clothes 3 times because you forgot about them and they soured in the washer twice.
  • You dress you and your kids in matching clothes (green and white stripes) and don't even realize it until you're out and someone mentions it. Ha!
Yes, all of these have happened to me in, oh, the last 3 months or so. Some of them numerous times! Do things like this ever happen to you?

Please note - I am not complaining about having two little ones, or being very tired. I love my life and my children. The purpose of this post to record some funny things I've experienced in this adventure called motherhood.

  4. Brings back a lot of memories! But 26 years later and I am still doing things like this and I don't have children at home
    to "blame" it on anymore.

  5. It's an awesome/messy/incredible experience to be a momma, isn't it?! I, too, have been spit up, drooled, pooped and peed on. And I think we all have done some silly things in our tiredness. You are a great mom! Keep up the good work!

  6. oh yes... even with just one very busy 10 month old these things happen to me constantly. Sundays are SOOOOO hard!!! I am pretty exhausted all the time to the point that I told my husband that he can get me the same gift for our anniversary, christmas, my birthday, valentines day... all of them - I just want an uninterrupted NAP!!! haha

  7. Loved this! I totally discovered a load of soured wash this morning when I went to wash my sheets because Jason unwittingly dumped a nest of earwigs in MY BED. I posted about it over at Tropical Blonde if you want a laugh about someone ELSE's crazy life ;) Wouldn't trade it for the world!

  8. I haven't done the shoes-on-wrong-feet thing yet, probably b/c mine isn't wearing shoes much yet (not walking). But everything else on your list I was going "yep. yep. yep. That's me!" And I only have one!! Thanks for sharing :) Motherhood is a wonderful thing, and it's comforting to know I'm not the only un-showered, soured-laundry, can't spell mama :)

  9. LOL! I can relate to so much of what you said. Just today something happened and I just thought,"How on earth are my kids going to make it to adulthood with such scattered mama?."

  11. I think most mothers can relate to this! I know I can now, with a demanding 3 year old, and an equally demanding newborn! It can be tough and sometimes I really just want a solid 45 seconds of not being needed... but I wouldn't change anything (even when I arrive to a store just to realize the 3 year old isn't wearing shoes at ALL!). :)

  13. Well, everything you listed I had done too! And I only have ONE child. LOL! BTW, your daughters shoes are so cute. My daughter had a pair of the same shoes - the only shoes she would wear last summer - and yes - she wore them on the wrong feet... frequently. :-)

  14. You brought back memories of the days when my kiddos were little, although most days I still leave the house without my wallet!
