Saturday was the big War Between the States reenactment in our town. My family has participated in it for the last 15 or so years! My Dad dresses up as a Chaplain and hands out tons of Gospel literature from "back then." Lily wore the dress my Mom made for my little brother to wear 12 years ago. You know both boys and girls wore dresses until they were like 3 years old.
I got all decked out in a hoop skirt for about 4 hours, but then I had to change because it was cutting off circulation to my baby belly. Ha!
Lily had a great time hanging out with her aunts and uncles (from both sides). I don't think she knew what to think at first of all of us dressed up in such funny looking clothes.
Aunt Katie talking to Lily
My handsome bro, Luke, fought in the Confederate army (of course!).
My lil' bro was a flag bearer
Jacob and his brother fought too, until they ran out of powder. So they "died" and got picked up by the medics. Ha.
This is the only picture I got of the battle because I was toting Lily around and there were so many people there it was hard to get a good spot to get a picture. Jacob, Judah, and Luke are in the group of soldiers in the background.
Lily actually fell asleep half way through the battle and slept for about an hour. I guess the gunshots and cannon booms were soothing to her?!
I know my Dad looks goofy in this picture, but I wanted to put it up anyway. He makes all kinds of animal noises and Lily loves it!
Lily woke up quite happy from her nap so she sat with YaYa and looked pretty for lots of people taking pictures.
On Sunday morning we had our church service at the reenactment, 1860's style. Then we enjoyed a long Sunday afternoon of sleeping and relaxing.
Monday we were busy running around getting together with family and friends. I completely forgot to take any pictures. Ugh, mommy brain!
Hope ya'll had a fabulous weekend!

What a fun time! Isn't it funny, everything kids can sleep through!!
ReplyDeleteI love. the picture of your dad and your sweet daughter. So precious!
ReplyDeleteThe re-enactment looks like it was so much fun! The picture of your dad and Lily is adorable! The last time we went to a Civil War Re-enactment was in 2000 at Gettysburg (we watched it, not participated). It was so neat! Looks like a great weekend! How neat that you had church 1860's style!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! Those pictures are amazing! Some of the ones of Lily you should have framed....they're that precious!
ReplyDeleteI think it would be so neat to be a part of something like that. Glad that yall had fun.
About next week, it doesn't matter to me whether yall stop by the house or we meet up for lunch. I'd love either one. It's up to yall really.
Looks like a great weekend and Lily is so cute. I am also awarding you the Cherry on Top Award...check my blog to see your award. echoesofloveacademy.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to go to a re-enactment like that, ever since I saw it in Sweet Home Alabama (have you ever seen that movie?) It just seems like such a southern thing to do -- but I'm probably stereotyping :)
ReplyDeleteThat looks like SO much fun! Thanks for sharing the story and the fun pics.
ReplyDeleteI just love how everyone is dressed up! So neat!!!!
ReplyDeleteMy husband used to do a LOT of reenacting! We have discussed doing it as a family but we haven't done it yet. What fun!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
That is too cool. We don't do stuff like that here! I also like how Lily fell asleep in the middle of the war :o)
