What A Week!
Oh my, this has been quite a week - a rough week!
On Monday, I witnessed a dog fight with my neighbors dog and two other dogs that have gotten loose before. The last time one of them attacked our dog. Anyway, long story short, the dogs tried to attack me as I stood at my neighbor's door watching for the Animal Control guy to come pick them up. So I was basically traumatized for the rest of the day and I have to testify in court at some point - so I've been having to answer lots of questions and phone calls over the last few days.
Monday night Lily screamed all night and pulled on her ear. I got her in to the doctor early Tuesday morning, and for sure, she had infections in both ears and one ear drum was blistered and very close to bursting. Bless her heart, it's just so hard seeing your little one sick!
So we got her an antibiotic and Motrin (for inflammation) and headed home assuming all would be fine. Lily took her first dose of antibiotic and Motrin just fine, but when I tried to give her the second dose of each, she literally fought me! I have no idea why she wouldn't take them. I tried putting them in everything I could think of, and tried giving them to her in about 10 different syringes - all to no avail.
I was a mess. She was a mess. Jacob was not home.
Late Tuesday night when Jacob got home, we tried again, but even with 2 people we couldn't get her to take them. She choked, spit up, cried, and fought.
On Wednesday morning Jacob called the doctor's office and told them what was going on. He told them that I was nearly 38 weeks pregnant and couldn't fight with Lily twice a day for the next 10 days to get the medicine down her. So, we bundled up and headed back to the doctor to get a shot of antibiotic.
The shot was not fun, but thankfully we don't have to fight anymore - except with the Motrin, but that's not too bad.
Lily will take Tylenol just fine. I have no idea what it is about the Motrin that she doesn't like. I even got the dye-free kind that's the same flavor as the Tylenol.
Ok, so add pregnancy hormones to all that and what do you have? A mommy who has cried more in the last 3 days than she has since Lily was a tiny baby! Trust me, it's been b.a.d.!!
I bawled:
- when the dog catcher got the 2 vicious dogs locked up
- all night Lily was screaming and I didn't know what to do
- on the phone with my mom, the doctor's office, Jacob, and my midwife
- when Lily wouldn't take her medicine
- in anticipation of the shot
- during the shot
- dealing with a grumpy baby
- etc...
Can I just say, it's hard being a mommy sometimes! Do any of you ever feel that way??
Along with all this, I had several food fails that I must mention.
Fail #1 - On Tuesday, I popped a frozen pizza in the oven for Jacob's lunch. The next thing we know, the kitchen is filling with smoke and the pizza is quite black!
Fail #2 - On Wednesday, I was making Jambalya for supper. As I was cutting up the smoked sausage, I noticed it was a different texture than normal. When I looked at the package, I saw that I'd bought Turkey sausage instead of the normal Beef sausage that we get! I thought maybe it would taste ok and Jacob wouldn't notice the difference. HA, in my dreams! As the Jambalya cooked, the sausage pieces swelled up really big and they tasted nothing like Beef sausage.
Fail #3 - Tonight I was in the middle of making homemade pizza, and I realized we had no pasta sauce and nothing to "make do" with! I just had to laugh at myself because just a little while before I'd thought to myself how nice it was that I hadn't had a food fail for the third day in a row! LOL. That's what I get for prideful thinking! ha.
Thankfully today was a much better day (besides the pizza sauce fail) and Lily seems to be feeling better!

Ugh! Many Fails!
Here is my bullet list of recent fails...
- We currently only have one key to our house because our neighbors still have the key they used when we were gone to Canada (yes, that trip was a month ago!). I keep the key since I'm usually in and out doing errands and stuff during the day. I just always make sure I'm at home to let Jacob in.
- Also on Tuesday afternoon...Lily was such a grouch around 4:30ish. I thought she needed a little nap, but she just screamed when I put her down. She wouldn't play with her toys or anything. I was busy trying to get an early supper ready before we headed out the door. At 4:45 I opened the refrigerator to get something out and I saw her bottle sitting there.
- During my pregnancy with Lily we faithfully took weekly belly bump pictures along with the fruit/veggie that her weight/size compared to each week.
- With pregnancy #2 on the other hand - we have only remembered to get 4 pictures so far and I had to get on my blog and count up from my last pregnancy update how many weeks along I am! Sad, very, very sad! I seriously think I have lost my mind!

Friday Fails
- Whenever we had the last tornado scare, I ended up going to the shelter looking like this! 1 brown and 1 black! What a dork! PS- I realize I have very ugly feet. My sister has told me since we were little that they look like claws. FYI- I refused to wear flipflops until 2 years ago because of my poor self-image! ha!
- This cast iron skillet with leftover gravy remains did not sit on my stovetop for over two weeks before I finally decided to clean it. Um, yeah! That kind of thing never happens in my kitchen.
- Speaking of kitchens, on Wednesday morning, my dear husband had the fabulous idea of making doughnuts in our new deep fryer. Well, unfortunately he placed the stack of papertowels we were going to use to drain the doughnuts on, on the stove right beside the kettle that was boiling water for our yummy french press coffee. The next thing we knew, our kitchen was filling with smoke and the stack of papertowels was blazing on our stove. Thankfully I managed to get them thrown in the sink, but not before ash had been blown all over the kitchen! Oh, and that same morning our "yummy" french press coffee was more like dirty dish water because said husband was so distracted with the doughnuts that he only measured 2 scoops instead of 4 scoops of coffee to grind. Needless to say, after all that, we were ready to go climb back in bed and start the day over again!
- We have been enjoying lots of grilled pizza lately, but the last time we had a little difficulty. I didn't get the pizza dough stiff enough, so it stuck to the grill {partly because Jacob only greased the grill instead of also brushing oil on the crust} and parts of it fell through the grates. Jacob got so frustrated with it, he wadded up the dough and threw it out in the yard {that's why there are sprigs of grass in the picture. He went and got it so I could take a picture for this post. Ha!}. So I was going to make a second batch of dough so we could try it again, but of course, I was out of yeast. We ended up having "flatbread" pizza for lunch. It was ok, but I don't want to have it again!
I was getting ready to give Lily a bath the other night and she kept giving me "sugar" so I took a picture. I know I look like a dork, but I'm ok with it.

Fails as a Single Mom
Jacob was at a T4G conference in Kentucky from Monday to this afternoon, so I got to experience life as a "single mom." Whew, it was not easy! I had many fails throughout the week.
Fails like:
- forgetting to water the dogs in this 80+ degree weather. Oops!
- not draining Lily's little bathtub for a whole day so now it's all slimy.
- leaving cool whip sitting out on the counter all night. Gross!
- not letting the chocolate covered strawberries for Mom's birthday party harden before arranging them on the platter. They were so stuck by the time of the party that when we picked one up, all we got was a strawberry- the chocolate "shell" stayed on the platter.
- nearly losing my debit card.
- not remembering Lily's bottle when we went to run errands.
- Lily's major clothes crisis. She is wearing 3 mo size, but most of the 3 mo clothes we've been given (or we're borrowing) are either heavy winter clothes or they are pants and shirts (and most of the pants are stretched). Poor girl is so skinny, pants will not stay up so she wore dresses most of the week.

In Which I Burn The Cookies
This has been a rough week for me with Lily and I being sick. Thankfully I started feeling better on Wednesday, but Lily is still congested. Poor baby! I've had many fails throughout the week, but this was the main one.
This is how they turned out, burnt on the bottom, brown on top, and completely unbaked in the middle! And the kitchen smelled quite wonderful as well. Ha! (Sidenote: our toaster oven pan is well "seasoned" if you were wondering! LOL)
So after that first failed attempt at cookies, I heated up the oven and baked a couple more...but I forgot to set the timer and they turned out, umm, let's say...quite crispy. Oops! I don't know where my brain was! My sweet hubby didn't complain about the crispy cookies, which totally made my day!
This picture totally does not go with anything about burnt cookies, but I just wanted to put up a picture of my little sweetie. Nothing smells better than a fresh bathed baby!!

Sour Milk Explosion
Most weeks the milk sits on the dryer for a few days {before Jacob has time to take out the garbage} and the jug starts to swell and the milk starts looking like this.
...and this. Disgusting I know.
Well, let me tell you what's even more disgusting. A few weeks ago I was cleaning up the kitchen and waiting for some clothes to finish drying, when I started hearing these popping noises. I thought something was wrong with the dryer so I ran over, only to realize that the milk jug was bursting and sour milk was spraying out all over the place. I screamed for Jacob and he came running and took the jug out to the trash as fast as he could. My dear hubby had the privilege of cleaning up the mess...boy did it smell awful! That's what you call a major milk jug FAIL!
{I can't believe I just admitted that such atrocious incidents go on at my house, or that I actually took pictures of it! Ha.}

Of CoffeePots & Baby Smiles
It's a known fact that my sweet hubby loves coffee. Well I do too, but I haven't been drinking it much since I was pregnant and breastfeeding, although now I'm starting to drink it a little more.
We normally make french press coffee every morning, but about a month ago Jacob got the brilliant idea to use the automatic coffee pot on mornings when he had to leave really early for work. That way we wouldn't have to get up early to boil water and grind coffee beans. We would wake up to freshly made coffee.
Anyway, the automatic pot idea only lasted maybe a week, which was fine because french press coffee is way better. Just sayin'! ha.
A few days ago I was cleaning my kitchen counters and my eyes suddenly fell upon this exotic-looking green goo growing in the coffee maker!

Food Fails
It's so hard to believe it's Friday again! The weeks seem to be flying by so fast. Lily is already 7 weeks old! Wow.
This week I had a couple food fails:
I planned to make sweet potato fries to go with our supper the other night. But it didn't happen with these shriveled nearly rotten sweet potatoes that might or might not have been sitting in the cabinet for the last 3 months!
And just because I have to post a picture of Lily, here are a couple funny ones.
Ya'll hop on over to My Blessed Life and check out more Friday Fails! I guarantee you'll get some great laughs!
Happy Friday!

Leaky Nipple, Swollen Lips...FAIL
FAIL #1
I had always planned to breastfeed Lily so when I had to start supplementing (for reasons completely out of my control), I didn't even own a baby bottle. Myra came to the rescue and gave us two bottles that she'd tried to use with Ridley but he refused. The bottle nipples were for older babies and the milk ran out way to fast for Lily. So Jacob and I headed to Target to get some infant slow-flow nipples. Instead of paying $4 for two good quality nipples, my dear husband thought it would be so much better to get this:
A lovely little bottle, ring, and nipple - all for .97 cents! I was very hesitant about it. Surely there would be some kind of issue with it since it was so cheap. But I didn't argue and the name brand nipples were hung back on the shelf and the bottle-nipple combo was tossed into the cart.
Well, what do you know. The very first time we used the nipple, there sure enough was an issue. It leaked. I don't mean just a few drops either! It really leaked. Seriously, milk would pour out all over Lily while she tried to suck. Poor baby. Apparently the nipple didn't fit the ring well enough and there wasn't good suction to keep it in place.
I still used it a few times, but everytime I would end up saying, "argh, I hate this leaky nipple!" Last night Jacob went to Walgreen's and shelled out the money for the
FAIL #2
Last night right before bed I couldn't find my lip gloss anywhere. Yes, I only have one tube of lip gloss. Crazy, I know! Anyway, I decided to use some of Jacob's chapstick and then search for my lip gloss in the morning. Bad idea!
I woke up a little while later and my lips were burning, itching, swollen, and I had a lovely red ring around my mouth. yuck!
They were a lot brighter red than the picture shows. Apparently I'm allergic to something in the chapstick. Who knew?!
